Judith Leiber was born and raised in Budapest, Hungary, where she studied the mastery of handbag making throughout the second world war. After the end of World War Two, Judith got to know and married Gerson Leiber, a U.S. GI living in Budapest. In 1947 the newlyweds immigrated to the US and after many years of working for various New York purse producers, Mrs. Leiber launched the Judith Leiber Company in 1963.
Since then, the enterprise has created world-renowned purses, handbags, evening bags and accessories. The bags are included in the permanent collections of museums world wide. Even though Mrs. Leiber retired in 1998, her historic impression on handbag fashion goes on. Many of the genuine designs are still sold to this day. "The Artful Handbag", a coffee table book that chronicles the vivid tale of the Company is available to purchased today.
Ms Leibers purses are carried by well known celebrities, including Jessica Simpson, Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Swank, Nicole Ritchie, Natalie Portman, Teri Hatcher, Debra Messing, Oprah Winfrey, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Cate Blanchett just to name a few.
Judith Leiber has also been carried by many first ladies to their husband's presidential inaugerations, including Laura Bush, Barbara Bush, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Betty Ford, and Nancy Reagan.
